Islamic State claims attack on foreigners' hotel in Afghanistan

The attack took place this Monday (12) in Kabul, against foreigners who frequent the hotel. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. The establishment was frequented by Chinese businessmen and diplomats.

External images of the building during the attack circulate on social media. Some guests jumped out of the window in an attempt to escape the bombs that set fire to the first floors.

The Islamic State terrorist group reported that two of its members had “attacked a large hotel (…), where they detonated two explosive devices hidden in two bags”, one aimed at a party for Chinese guests and the other at the establishment's reception.

The terrorists threw hand grenades and shot at guests, the group detailed in a statement.

According to the Italian NGO Emergency, which operates a hospital in Kabul, at least three people died and 18 were injured in the attack.
