Former guard of the British royal family opens up about drug use among soldiers

Former British royal guard Jimmie Straughan posted a video of himself recorded when he was still working for the royal family in 2020. In the images, the boy mocks his work and calls the guard “useless”. He was fired in 2022 after being caught in a drug test and told British tabloids that cocaine use was common among “bored” soldiers.

The video was released on TikTok. In the images, Jimmie appears with a rifle. There is also a brief video of Queen Elizabeth II walking her dogs. According to Jimmie, the queen was already irritated by his incompetence, which caused an ear tug.

“I am currently outside Windsor Castle. He should take care of the royal family. I'm currently looking at two ducks. I care? No”, he says in the video that has already accumulated more than 400 thousand views.

By law, recording images on official duty or of the royal family and their properties is a serious offense, with the right to expulsion.

Jimmie told the mail Online, from Australia, who was expelled in March 2022 after failing a drug test. He said cocaine use among guards was “rampant” as the job was tedious.

“Getting kicked out was the best thing that ever happened to me,” he said. “When you join the Army you are sold a dream of traveling the world and going to exciting places, but when we were on ceremonial duties it was just hell. I hated it when we had to stand in front of gaping tourists. I remember thinking to myself – am I a real soldier or just a nutcracker?” he recalled.
