President Jair Bolsonaro repeated some statements that have no scientific, statistical basis or commitment to the truth about the environmental issue, in addition to the other topics covered in interview with Jornal Nacional on Monday (22). The stories he tells about the Amazon and the environment are part of the disinformation repertoire and “figures of speech” of the president.

To JN, the candidate for re-election said that riverside dwellers are responsible for the fires in the Amazon 😱! Bolsonaro stated that to talk about the Amazon it is necessary to talk about the fires in France. According to him, in Brazil, half (of the fires) are criminal and the other half “are riverside residents who set fire to their small property”.
For the president, the “first concern” is the residents of the Amazon, as the area “has almost 30 million inhabitants”.
The president also said that he “tried” to carry out land regularization to identify any place that was deforested or had a hot spot and “pull the CPF number of the person responsible for the property”, but “the president of the Chamber did not collaborate to move this property forward”.

In addition to the misinformation spread on national networks during the interview with JN, Bolsonaro turned his artillery to the environment also this Tuesday (23), with ironic statements during the 2022 Brazil Steel Congress. He said he would replace the Minister of the Environment , Joaquim Leite, by Atlético Mineiro football player, Hulk.

Bolsonaro went further: he called the minister 'Juca Verde'. “Soon, with so many green things, he will take the guy from Atlético Mineiro and he will take his place and play football there. He’s turning into the Hulk”, he said in reference to the character Hulk from the comics.
