Street party in South Korea ends in tragedy: more than 100 dead; firefighters speak of turmoil and crushing

The street party to celebrate Halloween, in Seoul, capital of South Korea, brought together around 100 people this Saturday (29). The event, which offered electronic music shows, became the scene of tragedy: dozens of people were crushed in a stampede. According to firefighters, most of the victims had shortness of breath and cardiac arrest. The case is still being investigated. According to news agencies, the death toll exceeds 100.

According to information from the Seoul fire department, a riot caused victims to be crushed and suffocated. Some images show a crowd trapped in a dead-end street in the Itaewon district. There are reports of people being trampled.

According to AFP, more than 100 people were injured and deaths, as of early Saturday afternoon (29), totaled 120.

The head of the fire department, Choi Seong-beom, said that the incident occurred at around 22:22 pm local time on Saturday (10:22 am in Brasília) and that many of the victims were trampled to death.
