George Russell wins Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix

O pilotBriton George Russell, from Mercedes, won this Sunday (13) the Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix, at the Interlagos circuit, ahead of his teammate and compatriot, Lewis Hamilton, and Spaniard Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari.

Russell, who started in pole position after winning Saturday's sprint race, held the lead from start to finish to take the first win of his F1 career.

Initial safety car

The start of this Sunday's race was marked by an accident on the first lap involving Australian Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) and Danish Kevin Magnussen (Haas), which forced the safety car onto the track.

When the race resumed, the current champion, the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who started third, tried to overtake Hamilton, but ended up touching the Briton's car.

Both the pilotThey left the track, although Hamilton managed to continue and stay in contention, while Verstappen, more injured, had to go to the pits to change the front wing. Furthermore, the Dutchman was given a five-second penalty for the incident.

In the final part, Hamilton, winner three times in Brazil and who was looking for a victory to become the first pilotthe one in history to win at least one race in 16 consecutive seasons, he showed all his experience and quality and managed to overcome Sainz and Pérez, reaching second position on the 45th lap.

Merdedes' turn

Russell, 24, continued flying until victory, while Hamilton remained safe in second place and, in third, Pérez lost strength and ended up finishing seventh, overtaken by Sainz, Leclerc, Alonso and Verstappen.

"I do not know what to say. All the memories of my career are flashing through me now. Being part of this team… I have a lot of people to thank,” said an emotional Russell after the victory.

The 2022 Formula 1 World Championship season ends next Sunday, with the 22nd and final race of the year, in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
