French government wins important vote on pension reform in the National Assembly

French deputies rejected, this Monday (20), the two "motions of censure" presented against the French government. The objective was to overturn the unpopular pension reform, imposed by decree on Thursday. With parliament's refusal, the changes in retirement also come into effect subject to Congress's approval.

The rejection of the second “motion of censure” or “motion of no confidence” presented against the government finalizes the process of approving the new French pension. According to the president of the National Assembly (Lower House), Yael Braun-Pivet, Emmanuel Macron's reform will be definitively approved with the completion of these procedures.

The liberal president achieved a majority in two votes: the first victory in the National Assembly was against the first request from the independent LIOT group with the support of the left.

The same happened with the second motion presented by Marine Le Pen's far right, which received just 94 votes out of the 287 needed.

Last week, faced with a series of protests and strikes that paralyzed basic services in the country, Macron decided to make the new retirement rules work through decree, which angered opposition parliamentarians.
