Recording with Bizarrap was a 'relief' to get over the breakup, says Shakira

Recording a song aimed at her ex-partner Gerard Piqué with Argentine producer Bizarrap was a "relief" to get over the separation, said Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira in her first television interview after her divorce.

“My songs are the best therapy, they are more effective than a visit to a psychoanalyst,” she told the Mexican network Televisa, with whom she spoke for almost half an hour and whose interview was broadcast on Monday night.

The Colombian artist released the song “BZRP Music Session #53” in January, in which she expressly refers to the former football player and his current partner, Spanish Clara Chía. In a matter of hours, the song had already been listened to more than 30 million times and set social media on fire.

“I entered the studio in one way and left in another (…), it was a great liberation that was also necessary for my own healing, for my own recovery process”, explained Shakira.

“I think I would be in a very different place if I didn't have this music, the chance to express myself, to think about the pain,” he added.

She also revealed that it was at the suggestion of her son Milan, that she decided to record with the Argentine producer.

“He told me 'you have to do something with Bizarrap, he's the Argentine god'”, said the singer, smiling as she remembered the boy's words.

Shakira and Piqué announced their separation in June 2022, after more than a decade together. In addition to Milan, they have Sasha.
