HBO cancels 'Westworld' after fourth season

HBO has decided to cancel the sci-fi series Westworld after its fourth season, which premiered this year. According to international media outlets, the information came as a surprise, as the program was already considered one of the company's biggest bets. However, since its third season, Westworld has accumulated low ratings, which may have justified the channel's decision.

In a statement, HBO stated that it was grateful to creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy for the partnership. “Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step,” he said. “We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners,” continued the text published by The Hollywood Reporter.

Westworld It went on to accumulate 54 Emmy Award nominations, including a supporting actress win for Thandiwe Newton, who plays the android Maeve Millay. Just last month, Nolan said in an interview that he was counting on a fifth and final season to end the story, which was also replicated by Joy, who said that the two had an ending for the series and would like to make it happen.

The channel did not explain the reasons for the cancellation, despite the low audience and critical response to the last two seasons.
