Field hospital reopens in Campinas with increase in covid-19 cases

The city of Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, decided to reopen the field hospital for the hospitalization of patients with covid-19. The municipality also once again "strongly" recommended the use of a mask, which is already in force in closed environments and on municipal public transport. Campinas is the largest city in the interior of São Paulo, has 1,2 million inhabitants and is facing an increase in cases and hospitalizations due to Covid-19.

The field hospital will open on Friday (25), at the Carlos Lourenço Emergency Care Unit (UPA), which will be closed this Thursday (24) to transfer patients who do not have the disease and complete the facilities. The unit will have 23 beds exclusively for Covid, 18 are infirmary, 2 for isolation and 3 with respiratory support for emergencies.

The UPA serves around 210 patients daily, who now, if they do not have Covid, must be referred to another unit.

This is the third time that the unit has been transformed into a field hospital, since March 2020. In July and August 2020 the hospital was opened and in January and November 2021 it was reopened.

This week the municipal network of the Unified Health System (SUS) reached 100% occupancy of general beds.

More cities in the interior

Other cities in the interior of São Paulo started to recommend the use of masks indoors after the increase in covid-19 cases.

The Health Department of São José do Rio Preto asked the population to return to using face shields in closed environments, with crowds of people and, mainly, on public transport.

In Presidente Prudente, the use of a mask is once again recommended and is now part of residents' routine. According to the Secretary of Health, Márcia Lima Dantas, there was a 250% increase in positive cases this month, compared to the same period in October.

In Araçatuba, the mask recommendation includes shopping malls and supermarkets. In Ourinhos, Santa Casa already has a patient with covid-19 in the queue for hospitalization and has decided to suspend the entry of children, the elderly and people with flu-like symptoms to visit hospitalized patients.
