Indonesia experiences football tragedy; 174 fans died in widespread fight

The confusion occurred during a match between Arema FC and Persebay Surabay, teams from Indonesia's first division. There was a pitched battle and 174 people died, around 323 were injured.

Of the 174, two were police officers. Around 323 people were injured.

According to local police, the confusion occurred at the end of the match, which Persebaya won 3-2.

The widespread confusion would have occurred because fans invaded to protest against the club, at which point the police had to intervene and used tear gas.

The fight went outside the stadium and two police cars were broken, one of them was burned. Fans also set fire to facilities in the building.
