Inflation in Argentina could reach 90% in 2022 after musical chairs in the Economy

Surprising a total of zero people. Inflation in Argentina reached a new high in June, at 5,3%, according to data released this Thursday (14) by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec). In 12 months, the accumulated rate is 64%.

And, as the old saying goes, “little misfortune is nonsense”, the inflation outlook for Argentines until the end of the year is 90%.

The data was released amid a wave of protests in Buenos Aires against the government of Alberto Fernández. Protesters call for control of the social crisis and demand an increase in government aid to face repeated price increases.

The crisis and dissatisfaction in the country deepened after the departure of former economy minister Martín Guzmán at the beginning of this month. With Guzmán's resignation, the population rushed to the markets to stock up on products before the devaluation of the national currency and price increases.

The minister left office after a series of problems with Fernández and his deputy, Cristina Kirchner, over the conduct of the country's economic policy amid the crisis. Before Guzmán's departure, the projection was that inflation would reach 76% at the end of the year.

Yesterday, the main Argentine agricultural producer organizations held protests on the sides of highways. They suspended the sale of grains and livestock for 24 hours to demand changes in the Fernández government's economic policy.
