NFL player suffers cardiac arrest after hit on the field and is in critical condition

Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on Monday night (2) after a blow during the game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The 24-year-old athlete fell unconscious on the field and was treated by ambulance, before being taken to the hospital.

“Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest following a crash in our game against the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,” says the note released on the Buffalo Bills Twitter profile.

“The next 12 to 24 hours are critical to Hamlin’s recovery,” Dr. Anthony Cardillo, an emergency room specialist, told CNN this Tuesday morning (3). Damar Hamlin's recovery may depend on how long he was in cardiac arrest after collapsing mid-game.

Personalities and athletes expressed support for Hamlin – among them, basketball star LeBron James, who plays for the Lakers, and Patrick Mahomes, a football player. American football who is a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Both said they are praying for the Bills player.
