Iranian player has death penalty reversed and will be imprisoned for 26 years for defending women's rights

Amid the tension experienced in Iran, due to protests for women's freedom in the country, player Amir Nasr-Azadani was accused of treason for standing alongside the Iranian women's cause in demonstrations. The athlete was at risk of being sentenced to death by hanging, but he avoided the maximum sentence and will have to serve 26 years in prison.

On the 16th of November, Nasr-Azadani participated in a protest over the death of the Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for inappropriately wearing the Islamic veil. At the time, the demonstration ended with the death of the country's security agents.
