Flamengo player who kissed reporter is charged with sexual harassment

The complaint was made by prosecutor Glícia Pessanha Carvalho Viana, member of GTT-Desporto. According to her, Jéssica was preparing for broadcast “when Marcelo Benevides started shouting and swearing, being asked by the victim to calm down”. “The accused then approached her, apologized, placed his hand on her shoulder, sliding it up her arm and kissed the victim's shoulder, who avoided it. Then, she started a live report and, while she was talking to the program presenter, the accused kissed her again, now on her face, against her will,” reported the prosecutor.

After Marcelo tried to flee the scene, he was arrested and taken to Benfica prison, where he spent one night – but was eventually released after paying bail.

At the time, judge Marcello Rubioli, from the 1st Criminal Court Specialized in Criminal Organization, Fan Court and Major Events of Rio, considered that there was no proof of the risk that the agent poses to public order, economic order, criminal investigation or application of criminal law. Now, Benevides will have his crime of sexual harassment judged and will have to explain himself to the Court.
