Lula fears tumultuous transition in case of victory against Bolsonaro

Candidate and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) declared, this Friday (30), that he fears a tumultuous transition, if he defeats Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in Sunday's election (2). President between 2003 and 2010, the PT member compared the current political climate with that of 2002, when he won the presidential elections by defeating José Serra, from the PSDB.

“PSDB people played politics. When he won, he had a party and, when he lost, he allowed whoever won to party. This is not Bolsonaro's behavior. He may try to create any confusion in the transition,” said Lula during a press conference in Rio de Janeiro.

Bolsonaro has said, on several occasions, that electronic voting machines are unreliable and raised the possibility of fraud, without providing evidence. Some analysts fear that he will not recognize an eventual defeat.

“The results of the polls will be respected as long as the elections are clean and transparent,” said the president, during the campaign.

According to a Datafolha survey released on Thursday (29), Lula, aged 76, has 48% of voting intentions against 34% for Bolsonaro.

Considering only valid votes (without blanks or null votes), Lula has 50% of support, the minimum percentage to obtain a victory in the first round.

“From a political point of view, (returning to power) is more difficult than in 2002 (…) against a party like the PSDB, which made an extraordinary, peaceful transition, and we had access to all government information. I don’t think we will have the same ease with Bolsonaro”, insisted the PT leader.

On the penultimate day of the campaign, Lula will also take part in a walk in Salvador and will then have an activity in Fortaleza.
