Mother denounces racism at elite school in the interior of SP

Last Sunday night (30), students from Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro de Valinhos, in the interior of São Paulo, created a group with 32 members called “Fundação Anti Petismo”. The students are being investigated by the Civil Police after racist insults against a colleague.

The institution is traditional and attended by upper middle class students. The group's aim was to call on students to demonstrate against the results of the electronic voting machines.

Student Antônio Biebie, 15 years old, was added to the group and saw aggressive comments such as: “I want these Northeasterners to die of thirst”, “I want that black girl for your mother”, “I'm pro-re-enslavement of the Northeast”, “I want to see poor f*ck yourself even more now” and “oh oh how stupid he is poor”.

Figurines with swastikas and other references to Nazism were also present in the students' exchange of messages.

The students who created the group organized, on Monday (31), an act against the results of the elections within the school, during the class break.

On Tuesday (1), Antonio promoted a demonstration against racism, and asked the school to take more serious measures.

Antonio's mother recorded the threats her son received on social media.

Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro stated that it repudiates acts of racism, but did not make it clear what measures will be taken.

“College Porto Seguro repudiates any racist actions or comments against any person. Acts of racial insult are not justified in any context. Considering that the construction of a free, fair and egalitarian society presupposes respect for diversity and freedoms, the College does not tolerate any type of hostility, persecution, prejudice and discrimination. It is worth remembering that lectures, educational guidance and projects on diversity of opinion, race and gender are held on all campuses for students and the school community.”

According to the Civil Police, the “The case was registered as racial insult at the Campinas Children and Youth Police Station (DIJU). The victim's mother attended the police station on Monday morning (31) and said that her son had suffered racist attacks in a Whatsapp group made up of his schoolmates. After judicial police measures, the case was forwarded to the Valinhos police station, where it continues to be investigated. Details will be preserved due to the confidentiality of the investigations and because it involves a minor.
