Masks are no longer mandatory on flights and airports, Anvisa decides

In a unanimous decision this Wednesday (17), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) decided to suspend the resolution that determined the mandatory use of masks in airports and planes. The measure had been in force since December 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

According to the decision taken by the agency, the current pandemic scenario allowed the mandatory use of masks on flights to no longer be a collective health protection measure.

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queira, reinforced that the high vaccination coverage and control of the spread of the coronavirus in the country led Anvisa to review the biosafety measure adopted at the beginning of the pandemic.

However, the agency still recommends the use of individual masks as it is an effective measure to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

At the meeting, Anvisa directors also decided that aircraft disembarkation will continue to be carried out in an orderly manner in rows, to reduce crowds in the corridors and the risk of contagion. In addition, aircraft cleaning protocols were maintained, as well as the provision of alcohol gel to passengers.
