Limit? There is not. The success of WhatsApp memes among Brazilians

WhastsApp in Brazil is more than one of the most popular social networks for exchanging messages. On the internet, stories that come out of 'zap' have become an endless source of memes. See how the app's features bring growing virality to life.

Since last day 9, new privacy-enhancing functions are being released to WhatsApp users. It is now possible to hide your “online” status and leave groups without being noticed, as announced by the company that owns Meta.

The changes aim to create greater simplicity and give more control to users of the application, considered the favorite social network among people aged 16 to 64, according to the 2022 Global Data Report*.

WhatsApp: the most accessed application by Brazilians

The service that directly connects people is especially popular here. Among Brazilians who use smartphones, 54% keep the WhatsApp application on the home screen. The data was highlighted by a DataFolha research on online services and behavior carried out in March 2022. According to the survey, in all social classes and regions of the country, the use of WhatsApp predominates and the vast majority (92%) of Brazilians use this application to exchange virtual messages.

Despite the size of the WhatsApp message flow, it is also a cause for concern in combating false information. The possibility of sending audios, stickers, reacting to messages with emoticons and other fun resources on the network motivated an explosion of memes about one's own conversations. The wave started a long time ago. In 2019, the digital influencer Felipe Neto made a video reacting to 'zap' audios on YouTube, which today has more than 7 million views. Neto also recorded his reactions to conversation screenshots and exchanged audio between family members on WhatsApp.

Several humor pages are dedicated just to sharing unusual prints (instant copies) or audios of conversations on whatssap. Humorists and digital influencers from “neighboring networks”, that is, from Instagram, TikTok, Youtube and Twitter, take the opportunity to share real stories that happened in the application or simulate common conversations and situations that happen on WhatsApp.

Internet users are also unforgiving when Meta services, such as WhatsApp and Instagram, experience instability and are down for a few minutes or hours. Rain of memes:
