Met Gala 2023 will honor fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld

The theme for the next Met Ball has been revealed: Karl Lagerfeld. The event will honor the work and trajectory of the German fashion designer, who died in 2019 at the age of 85. Lagerfeld was creative director of Chanel and Fendi, as well as working on creating his own eponymous brand.

O Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball, is an annual event that raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a classic museum in New York. The celebration always takes place on the first Monday of May and also marks the opening of the annual exhibition of fashion from The Costume Institute.

Each year, a new theme is chosen – and the guests' costumes must match the theme of the exhibition. Anna Wintour, one of the biggest names in world fashion and editor-in-chief of North American Vogue, has been president of the Met Gala since 1995. 

Karl Lagerfeld He was a regular at The Costume Institute, but he used to say that fashion had no place in a museum. “Fashion is not art – fashion belongs to the street, on the bodies of men and women”, reveals an excerpt from the Vogue report, responsible for organizing the Met Gala.

Lagerfeld was a brilliant designer – so most of the items on display will be accompanied by the designer's drawings.

The next edition of the Met Gala takes place on May 1, 2023. The 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' exhibition is open to the public between May and July of the same year.
