There was no fraud, concludes Defense report on elections

The Defense report does not indicate any electoral fraud and also recognizes that the ballots and the results released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) are identical. In other words, no evidence of any manipulation of the electoral process was found. The report - considered an audit of the Armed Forces - was delivered to the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, this Wednesday (9) by the Minister of Defense, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira.

After the long disinformation campaign about electronic voting machines and Bolsonarist theories that raised suspicions about manipulation of the elections that elected Lula (PT) president of Brazil, the Armed Forces endorsed what all other bodies had already said: there was no fraud.

In a note, the TSE thanked the document for being sent and highlighted that the work of the military did not indicate any fraud that occurred in the election:

“The TSE informs that it received with satisfaction the final report from the Ministry of Defense, which did not indicate the existence of any fraud or inconsistency in the 2022 electoral process. The suggestions forwarded to improve the system will be analyzed in due course. The TSE reaffirms that electronic voting machines are a source of national pride, and the 2022 Elections prove the effectiveness, fairness and total transparency of the counting and totalization of votes”

Defense says to monitor what is already monitored 🤔

Even without finding any evidence of fraud, the military report calls for a technical investigation to be carried out into “possible ballot security risks” and cites a supposed risk that a “malicious code” could interfere with the functioning of voting devices.

Nogueira suggests that a commission of society technicians be created to “investigate the functioning of the ballot boxes”. But this work it's already done during the election preparation process, with the participation of Defense itself. 😏

Despite having 63 pages, the notes on monitoring the electoral system are restricted to the first 22 pages. The rest is made up of references used in the preparation.

The report is signed by the Minister of Defense, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, and three other military personnel: frigate captain Marcus Rogers Cavalcante Andrade, aviator colonel Wagner de Oliveira da Silva and colonel Marcelo Nogueira de Souza – the latter heads the Defense Team Armed Forces responsible for supervision.

Bolsonaro tried, but...

In the few statements he has made since the defeat, Jair Bolsonaro insinuated that the military dossier could change the game: “We will soon have the consequences of what is happening”, he stated, last Monday (7).

Last Tuesday, the 8th, the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, said that the party would not contest the results of the elections, but that Bolsonaro could do so if he had “something real in his hand”.

It was Alexandre de Moraes – so criticized by Bolsonaro – who responded to part of the military's requests to carry out an audit of the electoral process: ballot boxes were tested using voters' fingerprints to unlock the operation.

And to leave no doubt…

The 2020 model ballot box was subjected to inspection by experts from federal universities; the test pilotThe one with voter participation was carried out at polling stations in both voting rounds and the parties were able to carry out the audit, respecting the electoral rules.

Other institutions also supervised the elections this year and attested to the smoothness of the electoral process, such as the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) and the court Union accounts (TCU).
