The ticking of the nuclear threat: situation at the plant in Ukraine is serious, says IAEA

The fear of a nuclear disaster on the European continent only increases. This Thursday (11) the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) classified the situation at the Zaporizhzhia plant, occupied by Russians in Ukraine, as serious. The two nations once again exchanged accusations after new attacks in the region.

After new attacks in the region of the Zaporizhzhia plant - the largest nuclear plant in Europe -, this Thursday (11), the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Argentine Rafael Grossi, reiterated the importance of the entry of technicians agency to assess leak risks.

“I reiterate that this is a serious, serious situation,” Grossi said in a virtual meeting at the United Nations (UN) Security Council. He warned of the serious situation, given the constant attacks in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

The visit to the plant must be coordinated with the help of Moscow, whose military forces have occupied the facilities since the beginning of March, and also with the participation of Kiev, which needs to facilitate access to the site, said the head of the IAEA.
