UN chooses Belém to host COP 30, says Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced this Friday (26), that the United Nations has chosen the city of Belém, in Pará, to host the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Change of Climate (COP 30).

The meeting is scheduled for 2025.

The announcement was made in a video published on President Lula's social media, who appears accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB).

In January, the government made the city's candidacy official. In the announcement, Lula said that holding the climate meeting on national territory is “extraordinary news to give to the people of the state of Pará, to the city of Belém and to Brazil”.
