Pope Francis is expected to leave hospital on Saturday

Pope Francis, 86 years old, hospitalized with bronchitis since Wednesday (29) at the Roman Gemelli hospital in Rome, will be discharged on Saturday — the Vatican announced this Friday (31).

“The return of His Holiness to Santa Marta (his residence in the Vatican) is scheduled for tomorrow, following the results of the latest exams” held this Friday morning, announced the director of the Holy See's press office, Matthew Bruni, in a statement.

The Argentine pontiff “is spending his days well” and “clinical evolution is normal”, adds the note.

“Pope Francis had pizza dinner with those who assist him during these days of hospitalization: doctors, nurses, assistants and gendarmerie personnel”, Bruni said.

“This morning, after breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work,” he added.
