Passenger opens door during flight in South Korea

A passenger opened an emergency door on an Asiana Airlines plane shortly before landing this Friday (26), the company told AFP. The landing was safe, but several people were hospitalized.

Almost 200 passengers were on the Airbus A321-200 bound for Daegu International Airport, 240 km from Seoul.

When the plane was 200 meters above the ground, a passenger who was sitting near the emergency exit “opened the door manually by touching the lever”, said a representative of the South Korean company.

Some passengers had breathing difficulties after the door opened unexpectedly and some were taken to hospital, but no one was seriously injured, Asiana reported.

Yonhap news agency said nine people were hospitalized.

“The passenger was handed over to the police and is being questioned,” according to Asiana.

Yonhap published a video of the incident, which shows the moment the door is opened in mid-flight and the wind affects the passengers.
