Research reveals that stray dogs and cats are Brazilians’ favorites

Mixed breed pets (SRD), the famous “mutts”, are Brazilians’ favorites. This is what an exclusive survey by Guiavet, a family veterinary medicine platform focused on the preventive health of dogs and cats, revealed. The research collected data from more than 3.500 owners across the country and also showed the most common names of cats. See if your 4-legged child is on the list!

Dogs Ranking 🐶

Mutts top the list with 39% preferred by owners. Second place goes to the ShihTzu breed (9,5%), and third, to the Pinscher (6,34%). The other positions went to: Pit Bull (4th), Poodle (5th), Yorkshire (6th), Lhasa Apso (7th), Labrador (8th) and Bulldog (9th). Border Collie and Chow Chow tie for 10th place.

Cats Ranking 🐱

SRD felines are also preferred by 51% of Brazilians, followed by the following breeds: Siamese (2nd), Abyssinian (3rd), Angora (4th), Fur Curto American (5th), Persian (6th), Bengal (7th) and American Wirehaired Pointer (8th). American and Asian Bobtail share 9th place. Balinese and Himalayan are tied for 10th.

Favorite names 😻

Mel is the most chosen name for both dogs and cats. The three most common names for dogs are: Mel, Luna and Nina, for females; and Thor, Zeus and Bob for males. The kittens are more commonly called Mel, Nina and Mia, and the kittens are called Tom, Porridge and Simba.
