Post debate: candidates participate in interview, but Lula and Bolsonaro are left out

The debate promoted by TV Globo on Thursday night (29) generated many memes for the networks. Early this morning, the candidates spoke to the press about each other's participation. Check with the Curto.

QuestionAsked by journalists whether it wouldn't be more logical for the PTB to join the coalition supporting Jair Bolsonaro's reelection than to “double up” with the president, the party's presidential candidate, Father Kelmon, was elated. Throughout the debate on TV Globo, he praised Bolsonaro and attacked Lula, with whom he even argued off the microphones – the PT member called him “orange”. The candidate denied, however, that he had served as support for the current president.

“You’re the one accusing me of this,” he told a reporter. “I was actually attacked by a former president who calls himself a Christian. Where is he a Christian from? Did he create a church, his own? Today we see priests attacked by politicians who claim to be Christians. He’s the one who understands oranges, I understand gospel.”

União Brasil candidate, Soraya Thronicke, who stood out when she called Kelmon a “festa junina priest” during the debate, criticized the PT member. “Debating with a person who has no education is difficult, I think it was regrettable. It's a very strange candidacy, which campaigns for another candidate. There’s no way to hide that,” she said. When a foreign reporter compared the debate to sketches by the comedy group Porta dos Fundos, Soraya agreed: “you're right”. She also stated that she usually creates catchphrases, but eventually has the support of her marketer.

The MDB candidate, Simone Tebet, also criticized the level of the debate and stated that, if she seemed more condescending towards Lula than towards Bolsonaro, this was due to the questions she asked or received from them.

“Brazil is sad that it has to choose between the scandals of the monthly allowance and petrolão, of the past government, and the current government's bullying and vaccination. Now, the current president goes beyond any limit. He came with a question that should be asked to the former president, he cowardly asked it to me and heard what he had to hear,” he stated, referring to the question about Celso Daniel’s death.

The PDT candidate, Ciro Gomes, stated that Lula and Bolsonaro “got yellow”. Then, he referred to Bolsonaro. “At least one of them turned ugly, which was Bolsonaro. He had the opportunity (to ask Lula a question) and fled.” For the PED supporter, “the friction between the two (Lula and Bolsonaro) only produced negative results for both of them”. Like Simone Tebet, Ciro stated that he believes in changing votes and in undecided voters to change the current picture of voting intentions.

The two main candidates running in the presidential election, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), respectively leader and vice-leader in voting intention polls, did not want to hold a press conference at the end of the debate promoted from on Thursday night (29) on TV Globo.

The broadcaster stipulated that each candidate would have five minutes to answer questions from the press who followed the debate in the broadcaster's studios, in the west zone of Rio, but only the other five candidates spoke to reporters. Lula and Bolsonaro's interviews would be given at around 2:30 am this Friday (30).
