Lula's inauguration will see '100%' mobilization of the police in Brasília

Brasília will mobilize its entire police force for the presidential inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on January 1, authorities reported this Tuesday (27), amid concerns about the disturbances and the attempted explosive attack by Bolsonaro supporters.

On Sunday (1st), “there will be full mobilization, 100% of the DF police forces, both the Military Police, Civil Police, Fire Department, to guarantee the safety, not only of the President of the Republic, but of foreign delegations and people who will participate in the event”, declared Flavio Dino, future Minister of Justice and Public Security.

“There are no changes [to the inauguration script]”, he assured Dino, in response to the possibility of Lula parading on the Esplanada dos Ministérios in a closed car, instead of the traditional ride in the presidential Rolls-Royce.

Many supporters of Squid expressed, on social media, fear of riots or attacks during the inauguration, especially after a supporter of the president Jair Bolsonaro was arrested and accused of terrorism, on Saturday (24), for planting an explosive in a fuel truck at Brasília airport.

The man, identified as George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, told investigators that the aim of the attack was to “start chaos” and “prevent the establishment of communism in Brazil”.

Since the defeat of Bolsonaro in October, his supporters blocked roads and demonstrated in front of military barracks to ask the Armed Forces to prevent the inauguration of Squid.

On December 12, protesters from one of these camps clashed with the police and set buses and cars on fire in Brasília.

“These are not small terrorist groups, they will not be small extremist groups that will block the institutions of Brazilian democracy. There is no space for that in Brazil”, he commented. Dino this Tuesday (27th).

Bolsonaro, who has limited his public appearances since his electoral defeat, has not publicly commented on the events, nor confirmed whether he will transfer the presidential sash to Squid on Sunday (1st).
