Prosecutor gives Ministry of Women 3 days to detail crimes cited by Damares Alves

In yet another chapter of the controversial speech by former minister Damares Alves about the sexual violence scheme on Ilha do Marajó (PA), the state's Federal Attorney's Office for Citizens' Rights requested, this Tuesday (11), that the Ministry of Women , Family and Human Rights explain, in detail, all the alleged complaints received by the department, involving transnational child trafficking and rape of vulnerable people. Lawyers from Grupo Prerrogativas asked the Supreme Court for an investigative procedure, and federal deputy elected by PSOL Erika Hilton called the Attorney General's Office to act on the case.

The Federal Attorney's Office for Citizens' Rights (PFDC) wants the Ministry of Women to explain the appalling allegations made by elected senator Damares Alves (Republicans – DF) that there is a gang of sexual exploitation of babies, children and adolescents operating in the country, whose evidence would have been received by the department. The prosecutor's office wants cases from the last seven years (2016-2022) to be reported, whether in progress or not.

The MPF also asks the ministry to inform what measures it took when discovering the cases and whether there was representation (complaint) to the Public Ministry or the Police.

“This statement by the former MMFDH minister was received with concern and perplexity, especially because it could be confidential information that was known due to the public position held at the time”, stated, in the letter, the federal attorney for Human Rights Citizen, Carlos Alberto Vilhena.

Understand the case:

Speeches need to be explained

Damares Alves' alleged accusations made in a religious temple, without any proof, government action or referral for investigation, provoked action by the Prerogatives Group, made up of lawyers and operators from the progressive field, who requested action from the Federal Court of Justice.

The lawyers asked the minister Rosa Weber to send a letter to the ministry, institute appropriate procedures and determine investigative measures to investigate the conduct of Damares Alves and other members of the government.

As such complaints were not forwarded to the Federal Police, the Public Ministry or even the local police (in the case of Marajó), both the former minister and other civil servants may have committed the crime of “malfeasance” (when the civil servant fails to act in the face of a crime ).
