Brazilian productions are present at the Cannes Festival

This Tuesday (16), the 76th Cannes Film Festival begins, in France. Four Brazilian productions will be present at the festival. Check out! 🎥

In the dispute for the Palme d'Or, the most prestigious award in the Cannes Film FestivalIs fire brand. Despite being a British production, it is directed by Brazilian Karim Ainouz. The filmmaker, who won the 'U, Certo Olhar' exhibition in 2019 with The Invisible Life, competes for the event's top prize for the first time with a film about the marriage of King Henry VIII to Catherine Parr, starring Alicia Vikander, Eddie Marsan and Jude Law.

In the Un Certain Regard award, it competes The Buriti Flower, by Portuguese João Salaviza and Brazilian Renée Nader Messora, which portrays the life of the Krahô tribe and their fight for survival in the Pedra Branca village, in Tocantins.

Outside of the competition, we have the display of Ghost Portraits, by Kleber Medonça Filho, a filmmaker who frequently attends Cannes. After “Bacurau” (Jury Prize in 2018), he presents a documentary about his hometown, Recife, through the cinemas of the past. The film will be shown in a special session.

Finally, we have Get the Funds!, by director Lillah Halla. The film was selected for Critics' Week, a parallel exhibition that is part of the official programming of the Cannes film festival. The production narrates the dilemma of Sofia, a young volleyball player who discovers that she is pregnant, in a country where abortion is illegal.
