Putin announces that he signed an annexation agreement for four Ukrainian regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this Friday (30), in a speech in the Kremlin, the annexation of four Ukrainian regions after "referendums" widely denounced by Ukraine and its Western allies.

“Today we signed an agreement on the integration” of these regions into Russia, Putin declared to members of the government, deputies and senators and other representatives of the Russian state.

The documents formalize the annexation of the provinces of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk, located in eastern Ukraine. This is the largest annexation of territories in Europe since the end of the Second World War, in a strategy similar to that adopted when it took Crimea in 2014, territory that also belonged to Ukraine.
