Who are the biggest champions of the Brazilian Championship?

The Campeonato Brasileiro is Brazil's main football competition, and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially recognizes the titles of 17 different teams in the competition. The list of the greatest champions of the Brazilian Championship has grown since the CBF decided to implement in the ranking, the champions of the Taça Brasil played between 1959 and 1968 and the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, played between 1967 and 1970. Since in 2003 the dispute system passed being along the lines of the European championships, no one else achieved the feat of being undefeated champion.

10- Atlético Mineiro, Bahia, Botafogo and Grêmio – 2 titles

  • Galo was champion in 1971 and 2021
  • The Squadron won in 1959 and 1988
  • Fogão won the titles in 1968 and 1995
  • Tricolor Gaúcho, in turn, won in 1981 and 1996

9- International – 3 titles

  • The club was undefeated champion in the 1979 season
  • He was runner-up on 8 occasions

8- Fluminense – 4 titles

  • He won the competition in 1970, 1984, 2010 and 2012
  • Never been runner-up in the Brasileirão

7- Vasco da Gama – 4 titles

  • He won the Brazilian Championship on 4 occasions and came second on 4 others
  • Won in 1974, 1989, 1997 and 2000

6- Cruzeiro – 4 titles

  • He won the triple crown in 2003, winning the Brazilian Championship, the Copa do Brasil and the state championship
  • It was one of four teams to be undefeated champions. The feat was in the 1966 season

5- São Paulo – 6 titles

  • The team makes up the list of five clubs that have never been relegated in the championship
  • He won in 1977, 1986, 1991, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

4- Flamengo – 7 titles

  • Won the first edition of the Brazilian Championship in the points race era in 2009
  • Won the Libertadores and Brasileirão in the same year in 2019

3- Corinthians – 7 titles

  • Won the first national title in 1990
  • He was champion in 1990, 1998, 1999, 2005, 2011, 2015 and 2017

2- Santos – 8 titles

  • Recognized by the CBF as the greatest Brazilian champion before the unification of the titles
  • Won the tournament undefeated in 1963

1- Palmeiras – 11 titles

  • Champion of the first edition of the Brazilian Championship in 1971
  • He won the triple crown in 2020, winning the Brasileirão, the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores da América in the same year.
