Helicopter crash in Kiev kills 18 people; three were members of the Ukrainian government

At least 18 people, including Ukraine's Interior Minister Denis Monastirski and three children, died in a helicopter crash near a children's school on the outskirts of Kiev on Wednesday (18), local authorities said. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

The accident took place in Brovary, a city of around 100 inhabitants east of the Ukrainian capital.

According to images published on social media, a large fire started after the helicopter crashed.

The cause of the accident has not been disclosed at this time.

The aircraft belonged to the State Service for Emergency Situations, which depends on the Ministry of the Interior, according to a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force.
