Rafael Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon after abdominal injury

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal announced this Thursday (7) his withdrawal from Wimbledon, a tennis tournament held in the United Kingdom. The athlete confirmed that he suffered a tear in his abdominal muscles.

“There’s no point playing if I want to continue my career. If I play, the injury will get worse and worse”, explained Nadal during a press conference.

The tennis player was in the semi-finals of the competition and his next match would be this Friday, against Australian Nick Kyrgios. With the withdrawal, Kyrgios advances to his first Grand Slam final, as the four biggest tennis tournaments are called. His opponent will be defined on Friday, with the match between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie.

On social media, Kyrgios published a photo on the court with Nadal and wrote: “Different players, different personalities. Rafael Nadal, I hope your recovery goes well and we all hope to see you healthy soon. To the next".

😬 Kyrgios’ controversies

Already qualified for the Wimbledon final, Nick Kyrgios' name is in the news – but beyond tennis. The athlete is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari at the end of last year.
