Trail of destruction: Government publishes items damaged by scammers at Palácio do Planalto; see list

The Palácio do Planalto released, this Monday (9), a preliminary list of items that were damaged by terrorist supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this Sunday (8). According to the government, a "detailed" survey of the destroyed pieces has not yet been carried out, but the preliminary assessment shows that paintings, sculptures and pieces of furniture were damaged. Check out the trail of destruction left by the scammers.

  • Constructions "Brazil's flag“, by Jorge Eduardo, from 1995 — the painting, which reproduces the national flag raised in front of the palace and served as a backdrop for statements by the presidents of the Republic, was found floating on water that flooded the entire floor, after vandals opened the hydrants installed there.
  • Gallery of former presidents — completely destroyed, with all the photographs removed from the wall, thrown to the floor and broken.
  • Constructions "the mulattas“, by Di Cavalcanti — the main piece in the Noble Hall of the Planalto Palace was found with seven tears, of different sizes. The work is one of the most important in Di Cavalcanti's production. Its value is estimated at R$8 million, but pieces of this magnitude can reach values ​​up to 5 times higher at auctions.
  • Constructions "The Pied Piper“, by Bruno Jorge — the bronze sculpture was found completely destroyed, with pieces scattered throughout the room. It is valued at R$250 thousand.
  • Wooden wall sculpture Frans Krajcberg — broken in several places. The work uses wooden branches, which were broken and thrown away. The piece is estimated at R$300.
  • work table Juscelino Kubitscheck — exposed in the hall, the table was used as a barricade by the terrorists. Assessment of the general condition will still be made.
  • 'Araguaia', stained glass by Marianne Peretti — the piece was destroyed by terrorists.
  • Showcase table Sergio Rodrigues — the furniture had broken glass.
  • The sculpture “The Justice“, by Alfredo Ceschiatti, was painted with graffiti. 
  • clock Balthazar Martinot — the 17th century pendulum clock was a gift from the French Court to Dom João VI. Martinot was Louis XIV's watchmaker. There are only two watches by this author. The other is on display at the Palace of Versailles, but is half the size of the piece that was completely destroyed by the Planalto invaders. The value of the piece was not disclosed.

It is important to highlight that the condition of several works has not yet been assessed, as it is necessary to wait for expertise and cleaning of the spaces. 😔
