King Charles III praises 'solidarity' in his first Christmas message

In his first Christmas message since coming to the throne, King Charles III praised "solidarity" this Sunday, in a context of rising prices in the United Kingdom.

Dressed in a blue suit, the 74-year-old sovereign spoke from St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, where his mother, Elizabeth II, who ruled for more than seven decades, and his father, Prince Philip, are buried.

“I have no words to thank you for the affection and sympathy you showed our entire family”, he said, highlighting how emotional Christmas is for “all those who have lost their loved ones”.

charles iii, who will be crowned on May 6 in London, thanked the work of the military, emergency services and health professionals, just days after nurses began an unprecedented strike in the country to obtain better wages.

“I especially want to pay tribute to all those wonderfully kind people who so generously” donate “food”, “money” or their “time”, in these difficult times, he added.

The monarch cited those who are affected by wars, famine or natural disasters, as well as those who “here are looking for ways to pay their bills or feed and heat their families”, amid inflation that is around 11% in the country.

“This sincere solidarity is the most inspiring expression of loving your neighbor as yourself,” he said.

“Whatever your faith, or whether you have no faith, it is in this life-giving light and with the true humility that lies in serving others that I believe we can find hope for the future,” he added, wishing a “Christmas of peace, happiness and eternal light.”
