TSE employee is dismissed for alleged political activity; former employee reports to the PF

The Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reports on the dismissal of employee Alexandre Gomes Machado, who worked at the Judiciary Secretariat, part of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Superior Electoral Court. He was dismissed after colleagues accused him of making it difficult to analyze allegations made by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) about a radio boycott. He approached the Federal Police to give a statement giving his version of the dismissal, stating that he was only denouncing failures in monitoring electoral advertisements.

According to members of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes' office already intended to dismiss the advisor after the elections, for reasons of performance in his duties and Machado's poor relationship with colleagues. Future exchanges of other servers were also in the TSE's plans, in this sense.

Alexandre Gomes Machado would have hindered the TSE's work in relation to the action presented by Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) campaign about alleged radio boycott to the president's insertions. The former advisor worked in a sector related to the topic, and after his political activities were detected, he was dismissed.

Machado alleges oversight failures

Now, after his dismissal, Machado told the Federal Police that he believes he was fired because he informed the TSE “repeatedly” since 2018 that “there are oversight and monitoring failures in the dissemination of electoral propaganda inserts.”

Machado said he sought out the PF because he felt he was a victim of abuse of authority and feared retaliation after reporting “problems in inspection by the TSE”.

TSE note

Regarding Machado's dismissal, the court released a brief note:

“Due to the election period, the TSE management has been making gradual changes to its team.”
