In-person SPFW brought new parade locations, diverse bodies and a fifty-year-old brand

The biggest fashion event in the Southern Hemisphere, São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW), shook the fashion world during the week. The event, which ends this Sunday (20), is considered a post-pandemic milestone, as almost all parades took place in person. The two past editions were digital, to comply with the social distancing protocols imposed by the covid-19 pandemic. Even with the focus on face-to-face this year, five brands chose to present themselves digitally. We tell you what stood out most about this mega event!

The plans that were drawn up by brands before the Covid-19 pandemic arrived were able to come to fruition: the creative director of Sao Paulo Fashion Week , Paulo Borges, wanted to transform the week of parades into a festival, taking the parades to the streets of Mooca. Therefore, the 2022 edition was named SPFW + IN.PACTOS.

The proposal was tried out in June this year, with the fashion week outside the emblematic Ibirapuera Park, as is usually the case. In the middle of the year, the few in-person parades also took place at Temple complex – a warehouse in Mooca (neighborhood in the central region) – and in the Iguatemi shopping mall, as is happening now.

The novelty of this edition was the inclusion of Sala São Paulo – one of the most charming concert venues in the city – in the parade circuit, which received nothing more and nothing less than the  Misci – men’s brand that makes clothes inspired by women – from Airon Martin, who rocked a collection inspired by motorsport. The fifty of the time

Ellus is celebrating its 50th anniversary and decided to take its fashion show to the luxurious Rosewood hotel. Too much!

+++ A little more accessible +++

Gone are the days when SPFW was an inaccessible event for mere mortals, as the fashion shows only welcomed guests. In this edition it was possible to buy tickets for different types of “tours” within the event (some did not give access to the parades, believe me!). The most complete ticket cost R$1.200 and sold out quickly.

For the creator of SPFW, the highlights of this edition were the efforts to avoid textile waste in the clothing production phase and the “way in which fashion has worked on identity issues, including racial and sexual minorities both on the catwalks and in production".

Various bodies

The inclusion of all body types on the catwalk is a trend. Even with slow steps, it is possible to see this transformation on the catwalks. This edition of the fashion event was no different: there was a fat model, yes! There was also the so-called “gender break”, with a genderless tailoring collection presented by the brand Anacê, on Friday (18).

For the first time

Three new brands were on the SPFW catwalks. Are they:

  • Mauricio Duarte, which is inspired by indigenous communities in Amazonas
  • Horn, which will have shine, exaggeration and femininity
  • Heloisa Faria, which will feature vintage and psychedelic fabrics.
