Tarcísio de Freitas talks about “attack by criminals” and ends visit to São Paulo favela after shooting

The campaign of Tarcísio de Freitas, candidate for governor of the State of São Paulo for the Republicans, was interrupted this Monday (17), during a visit to the University Center of Paraisópolis, a community located in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo. There was a shooting while the candidate was there.

The candidate for the São Paulo government took to social media to say that he was the target of an “attack by criminals”. However, he highlighted that everyone is fine and a “criminal was shot”.

According to Estadão newspaper, as soon as Tarcísio's campaign participants heard the shots, they were instructed to “lie down on the floor and keep away from the windows”. The Military Police were called.

G1 reported that Tarcísio was on the third floor of the Polo Universitário building when the shooting started outside, and it is not yet known where the shots came from or whether they were fired at the campaign. Tarcísio left the place around 20 minutes later, accompanied by security guards and an escort in a van.

The governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia, also took to Twitter to inform that he has already spoken to the candidate – whom he supports – and that he is doing well. Garcia also stated that there will be an “immediate investigation into what happened”.
