Telegram sends a message to users saying that the Fake News PL “threatens freedom of expression in Brazil”

after the Google index a text contrary to the Fake News PL on your home page, now it is the Telegram messenger's turn to issue a message against PL 2630/2020. The message was sent to all users of the application in Brazil on Tuesday afternoon (9).

In the text, sent via the official Telegram channel within the application itself, the company argues that the Fake News Bill could undermine freedom of expression in the country. According to the message, the law would give the government powers to censor content on the internet without the need for prior judicial oversight.

At the end of the message, the company also encourages people to contact their representatives in the Chamber against the measure. 

It is worth remembering that Telegram is directly linked to the discussion as Brazilian authorities have alleged difficulties in communicating with the company's management. The company was asked for information about groups that were committing crimes on the network, but Telegram ended up failing to comply. 

In twenty minutes, more than 150 thousand users have already seen the message. On Twitter, the topic has already become one of the most talked about, with more than 605 thousand mentions. It is the second most prominent topic.
