Government transition: Alckmin confirms names that will form social and economic centers

The vice-president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin, coordinator of the government transition team, announced this Tuesday (8) the names of members of two important groups for the new administration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva: economic and social. In the economy, representatives from different lines, such as Pérsio Arida and Guilherme Mello, make clear the idea of maintaining a "broad front" to reorganize the federal government. In the social, former presidential candidate Simone Tebet (MDB) appears as team coordinator.

In the economic area, Pérsio Arida and André Lara Resende were announced – with a more liberal profile, considered “fathers” of the Plano Real in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso – who can send a message of relief to the financial market, and Nelson Barbosa and Guilherme Mello – who defend an economic line with more state action, taking into account society's problems – who are more in favor of relaxing the spending ceiling for social programs.

This last definition was very clear in Alckmin's words: “what cannot wait is hunger, health, education… the focus is on people and what is most urgent, how to guarantee the 600 reais family allowance”.

The vice president reinforced that these names are part of that group of 50 paid people who will work in the coming months for the transition from a Bolsonaro government to a Lula government. This does not mean that they will be part of future ministries: “it’s 50 days of work, period”, said Alckmin.

Another important front for the next government is the social area. And in this group, senator Simone Tebet appears as leader in the transition group, coordinating Márcia Lopes, Tereza Campello and André Quintão.

Earlier, Alckmin said that Tebet would be in charge of Social Development in the transition team. “Simone, with her experience and sensitivity, the strength of a woman, will work with us in the area of social development, which is a very important area”.

But that doesn't mean she's going to take on a ministry. “There is no relationship between transition and ministry. They are different things”, explained Geraldo Alckmin.
