Three killed, including a child, in Russian airstrike on Kiev

Russia carried out an air strike on Kiev on Thursday that killed at least three people, including a child, an incursion that sparked panic in the Ukrainian capital after a week of bombings.

The attack, which began at 3am local time (00pm Brasília, Wednesday) with cruise and ballistic missiles, left three dead and 21 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.

“In the Desnianski neighborhood: three people killed, including a child (born in 2012), and 10 people injured, including a child. In the Dniprovskyi neighborhood: two people injured,” the Kiev Military Administration announced on Telegram.

At the same time, Russia began to remove hundreds of children on Wednesday from regions bordering Ukraine, targets of intense bombing in recent days, and where the situation is “alarming”, according to the Kremlin.

This Thursday, eight people were injured in a city in the Belgorod region, close to the border and the target of continuous artillery fire, announced governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

“Eight people were injured. There are no deaths,” she said.

“The lives of civilians and the population are under threat, particularly in Shebekino and nearby areas,” said Gladkov.

Removal of minors

The governor, however, denied information published on some Telegram channels about an “advance” by Ukrainian troops in the Belgorod region.

Gladkov announced on Wednesday the start of the evacuation of minors from two locations targeted by artillery and mortar fire.

“From today onwards we are evacuating our children from the Shebekino and Graivoron districts,” he said. “A first group of 300 children will be sent today to Voronezh,” a city about 250 kilometers to the northeast.

A journalist from the Ria Novosti agency said that several buses carrying around 150 people arrived in the city.
