Türkiye arrests and charges Syrian woman for Istanbul attack

Turkey accused, this Monday (14), a woman of Syrian nationality of planting the bomb in the attack that left six people dead this Sunday in Istanbul. According to police, she acted under orders from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which denies the accusations.

“The person who planted the bomb has been arrested,” declared Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu. “The terrorist organization PKK is responsible for the attack,” he accused.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), however, denied any role in the attack. “We have no relationship with this event, we do not attack civilians and we reject actions that do so,” according to the ANF news agency, close to the PKK, based on a statement released this Monday.

Syrian Kurdish fighters also denied participation in the attack. “We guarantee that our forces have no connection with the explosion in Istanbul and we reject the accusations against them,” Mazlum Abdi, commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said in a tweet.

The attack, which occurred mid-afternoon on Sunday, caused six deaths and 81 injuries, of which 24 were still hospitalized this Monday.
