Latest from Ukraine: Orthodox Christmas ceasefire ends without interruption in fighting

Ukrainians celebrated Orthodox Christmas this Saturday (7) amid the war in the country, some in shelters. The announced 36-hour Russian truce ended at midnight from Saturday to Sunday (local time) without the fighting stopping during the day.

The ceasefire, announced unilaterally by Russia, ended at 21:00 GMT (18:00 Brasília) amid exchanges of criticism from Ukrainians to the Russians for not having respected it and from Moscow to Kiev for not allowing its application.

“The world could see again how misleading the statements of the high command in Moscow are,” accused the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video message posted on social media.
