Latest from Ukraine: city of Bakhmut is 'practically surrounded' says Wagner group

The Russian paramilitary group Wagner, which is on the front line in the conflict in Ukraine, stated this Friday (3) that the city of Bakhmut, in the east of the country, is "practically surrounded" and asked President Volodimir Zelensky to order the withdrawal of the troops. The Russian Army has already dominated most of the territory, which had been intensely disputed for a few months.

The leader of the controversial paramilitary group Wagner asked Zelensky to order the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the largely destroyed city.

The Wagner units have Bakhmut practically surrounded, there is only one highway left to leave the city”, declared Prigozhin, in a video published on Telegram.

The video then shows three people, one elderly and two young people, who ask Zelensky for permission to leave the region.

“If before we faced a professional Ukrainian army, which fought against us, today we see more and more old people and children. They fight, but their life in Bakhmut is short, one or two days”, warned the founder and commander of the paramilitary group, Yevgueny Prigozhin.

“Give them the opportunity to leave the city, it is practically surrounded,” added group commander Wagner.

Biden receives Scholz in Washington

On the diplomatic front, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, receives the head of Government of Germany, Olaf Scholz, in Washington this Friday.

The German Chancellor's spokesman said the meeting will aim to discuss the evolution of the conflict in Ukraine and the support that allies can offer Kiev.

Peskov warned against further deliveries of Western weapons to Ukraine.

The supply of weapons “will not have a decisive impact on the outcome of the offensive (in Ukraine), but it is obvious that it will prolong this conflict, with sad consequences for the Ukrainian people,” he said.
