French university bans use of ChatGPT under penalty of expulsion

The prestigious French university Sciences Po banned, this Friday (27), its students from using the chat robot ChatGPT, artificial intelligence capable of answering questions. The use of the tool may be penalized with sanctions, such as expulsion.

“The use without explicit reference to the ChatGPT na Sciences Po, or another tool that uses artificial intelligence, is (…) currently prohibited for carrying out oral or written work”, says an email from management.

O Sciences Po is the first higher education center in France to officially announce the ban on this chatting robot, the use of which is permitted for pedagogical purposes, if so determined by the teacher.

Anyone who violates this rule may be penalized.”up to expulsion from the institution or higher education“, specifies the message sent to teachers and students.

Since November, artificial intelligence ChatGPT it spread rapidly in the academic sphere. A month later, eight universities in Australia assessed that its use by students could be considered plagiarism.

In the message, consulted by AFP, the university Sciences Po highlights the issue of “plagiarism” and that the tool “raises serious questions for education and research stakeholders around the world.”

In an experiment, University of Minnesota professor Jonathan Choi and other authors showed that the robot – created by the Californian company OpenAI – I could barely pass the US Law School entrance exams.
