Christmas sales in shopping malls increase by 5,9%

Sales in shopping malls had a nominal growth of 5,9% at Christmas this year compared to the same date last year. The sector generated R$5,6 billion in the week of December 19th to 25th. The data comes from the Cielo Expanded Retail Index, prepared by the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Abrasce).

The result was above the entity's initial projection, which predicted nominal growth of 4%. The average sales ticket was R$205, which represented an increase of 8,5% compared to R$189 in 2021.

For the president of Abrasce, Glauco Humai, the performance of shopping malls has improved thanks to the cooling of inflation and the increase in job vacancies – factors that have strengthened the population's consumption capacity in recent months.
