Wallace is suspended from Cruzeiro after sponsors repudiate post

It's not new that inconsequential posts on social media give terrible results in real life. This time, volleyball player Wallace, former national team, ended up suspended by Cruzeiro after taking a virtual poll about "shooting Lula in the face". An apology did not prevent the punishment for an indefinite period.

“As stipulated in the contract, Sada Cruzeiro informs that Wallace will be punished with removal and an indefinite suspension, starting this Tuesday (31)”, informs Sada Cruzeiro in an official note on the club's website.

In the text, the Cruzeiro board reinforces that it “repudiates any act that could mean incitement to violence”, after the athlete Wallace's posts.

Also according to the note, the apology that the athlete recorded on his social networks was a requirement of the club.

Cruzeiro also says, in the note, that we hope that the episode serves as a learning experience for everyone “with a reflection on the conscious use of social networks, and the responsibility that each one has in disseminating good values. Sport should be a tool to propagate equality, tolerance and respect.”

Sponsors such as Unimed-BH, Grupo Sada and Arcelor Mittal repudiated Wallace's attitude on social media.

More consequences

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) announced that it had sent a representation to the Ethics Council of the entity after Wallace's publication, reported Globo Esporte.

The body, which is independent, will proceed with the stages of the process, after considering the content of the post “unacceptable”.
