One of the report published by Vice (*), explains that – through Nemus – a global community of “guardians” is investing in sustainable projects through the purchase of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), aiming to promote sustainable economic activities that guarantee protection and productivity within the Amazon for future generations.

The company acquires threatened land in the forest and creates a series of NFTs collectibles, each tied to a unique geolocation within the land.
According to the publication, the company intends to acquire more than 40 thousand hectares of forest and form a kind of “protective belt”, spreading across the states of Acre, Amazonas and Pará. This will be a natural barrier that could transform local deforesters into protectors , offering them economic alternatives.
A Nemus, however, has faced several obstacles. These include extensive bureaucracy, poorly designed land ownership regulations, and government backlash. indigenous communities locals who are claiming part of the land the company is trying to acquire as their own.
