Author who launched the 'metaverse' concept talks about difficult times in technology

The guy responsible for the term metaverse, author Neal Stephenson, spoke out about the low point of the idea. During Paris Blockchain Week 2023, the Snow Crash writer spoke about the problems faced by web3, and, more specifically, the metaverse, in an interview with the Cointelegraph portal.

Stephenson published his work Snow Crash in 1993, and was responsible for creating the concept of metaverse. According to him, the main problems involving the metaverse are generated by the anxiety of the 'empowered' to make quick money with technology. For the author, people want to “financialize everything very quickly”.

“We need to create something new. And yes, it took a lot of hard-earned experience for this to become generally understood,” Stephenson narrates. Still according to him, the market is skipping many important steps due to this anxiety.

He concluded by explaining that he is “more focused on trying to help people build valuable experiences.” For him, the market will be able to survive, even with the downturn: “The financial sector will take care of itself, but we don't start with the financial sector”.
