Discover Mocopi, one of Sony's bets for the metaverse

Sony Japan released this Tuesday, the 29th, its newest bet for the metaverse, titled Mocopi. Short for “motion capture”, the name is suggestive of what the tool seeks to offer, a simultaneous reproduction of human movements in the virtual environment. The launch is part of a series of company products designed for web3.0.

Sensors capture limb movements and reproduce them in virtual reality; understand:

Using six sensors attached to the limbs of the human body, software, which can be installed on a smartphone, will reproduce the user's movements in the metaverse. With pre-sales scheduled for December and official sales for January, Mocopi will allow users to install sensors on themselves and control their avatars through virtual reality. Metaverse enthusiasts and TikTok addicts can be excited about the product.

Sony's promotional video suggests that using and calibrating the sensors is easy. The kit, made up of sensors in the shape of small capsules, can be easily carried in a case, as if it were a wallet, and then installed on bracelets.

The estimate, in direct conversion, is that the product could cost more than R$1800,00, however, there is still no forecast for selling the product outside of Japan.

For the company, the mocopi, in addition to being a playful entertainment tool, can directly assist in the creation of new technologies and adaptation to new digital environments through extender plugins. In addition to Mocopi, the company is also designing a Playstation with virtual reality glasses, the PlayStation VR2.

“In addition to increasing the degree of freedom in video expression in virtual space, this item expands the use of motion data for activities such as full-body tracking, facilitating the development of new services in areas such as metaverse and fitness. In the future, we will seek to increase the number of partner companies that develop services linked to 'mocopi'”, said the company in a launch note.
